SOLVED - Buttons greyed out in 'software management'

    Hello Everyone,

I've been using Kubuntu for a few weeks now and so far it has been excellent. However, I've just tried to install some software and it seems that all the buttons in the software management section of the system settings are greyed out! Thus I cannot install or remove anything.

I'm not asked for my password either which I'm sure it used to do. Has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just me? And is there a solution?

Thanks for reading this. Thanks even more if you answer

Thanks for replying. The packages are greyed out too. I can't select anything. I suspect it is something to do with the application running without root permissions. I am no longer asked for the root password when opening 'update software'.

if your using add and remove software from the system setings it wont ask for pasword when opening ......to seleckt one you must click the arrow to the rite side of the line.

just clicking the line or package at left side onley dose the drop down info

          Ah-haa! Of course. I've been a bit stupid there haven't I.

In my defence, it's not entirely clear is it.

          Thanks for your help Vinny.
