deluge and iptables

I am possibly migrating from Mandriva 2009.1 to Karmic Koala which I have installed. I am trying to run Deluge 1.1.9 and I have 2 torrents loaded but waiting for something.

I guessed it might be iptables blocking and I know how to open ports in Mandriva but have no actual knowledge of iptables.

I installed Guarddog hoping it would let me control the iptables enough to open my bittorrent ports. I have read the install notes and have opened all the ports/protocols I can see that might be relevant (I can now use the internet again!) but my torrents are still sitting there waiting.

I have done searches here for 'deluge and iptables', 'deluge and guarddog' torrents and iptables' etc but can't find anything similar. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I read somewhere else how to ask system what ports it is listening on (netstat -ln):

I am afraid I am none the wiser...except the ports I have tried to open are not listed.

Should have said earlier I don't have a router connected, just direct cable modem. I am using deluge because one of the websites I use will accept lots of versions of Transmission up to 1.74 and accepts 1.76 but not 1.75, the version available from Kubuntu.

Kubuntu uses Ktorrent by default the ver I hav in my fulley updated Karmic is

KTorrent
Version 3.2.4
Using KDE 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)

and work's flawlesley for me withought having to use iptabels or garddog or eneything to manipulate ports.

even when changing the default ports within Ktorrent.

I allso have Transmission 1.75 (9117) and it works as well

and I see your using the curent ver of deluge as listed in Kpackagekit from the repo so ?
you did install from your packagemanager (Kpackagekit)rite?

my point being that you shoulden have had to do eneything but load the torrent?

mabey thare went eney seed's avalabel as yet??

Thanks vinnywright! I had been thinking about removing Guarddog and trying again. I just did and my torrents are flying! I still don't know (or care now very much) what the problem was before.
