[NVIDIA] Video Tearing when Desktop Effects Enabled

Tech: Kubuntu 9.04, recommended NVIDIA '180' driver (I don't know what card I have; maybe the 6xxx?)
    Player: Dragon Player, SMPlayer, whatever.
    Mode: XV, X11, gl, whatever.
Settings: Desktop Effects (from KDE) enabled.

Other info: Using "compiz" it's the same story UNLESS I CHECK "Sync to Vblank" in compiz settings. Compiz without "sync to vblank" behaves similarly. Problem disappears with compiz "sync to vblank" or no desktop effects active.

What can I do to solve this problem?

PS: I don't want to use compiz.

Nope, sorry, that does nothing. Also, I have an NVIDIA card, and that link is for ATI.

Again, I have no problems unless KDE desktop effects are enabled. Then, my video tears.

      Anybody?
