    hi mae.
first, i'm sorry but i don have any experience with your modem.
But i DO remember seeing someone on the ubuntuforums saying that he got his working.
so a search on ubu, wow so many results 250.

    then a look for help documents and i found this;

            Re: Huawei E220 wvdial setup.

Upgraded to Kubuntu 9.04 in the hope that it would resolve my problem.

Still not working. Getting desperate, if I can not get this to work I will have to un-convert the user from Linux back to windoZe.

Is there anyone who can help?

              Re: Huawei E220 wvdial setup.

pppd is not running as root and can not read your *-secrets files to get your password.

This is a for pre-paid sim card, there is no password or username, do I simply leave blank?

                  Re: Huawei E220 wvdial setup.

That info would come from whoever sold you the card. I expect pppd will fail if it can not read the files anyway.

Re: Huawei E220 wvdial setup. [Solved]

At last I was able to connect via Huawei E220 modem.

The followings was changes I made.

                    - Updated E220 Firmware via Web.
                    - Inserted a new sim card with additional airtime. (I was not sure if the old sim was faulty)
                    - Installed Ubuntu 9.04, the modem was auto detected, selected service provider and "voila".

I wish this was possible in Kubutu but can not afford to keep on struggling with this issue.
