    Blank screen on install

    Hi

After running Kubuntu 8.10 in a VM for a while I've decided to install it for real & use it as my main OS. Easier said than done though. I get a blank screen when trying to install using either the straight install or the live-cd install.

It gives the normal menu with options (install, check CD etc). Then it does the blue moving bar thing with the kubuntu logo and then nothing. Doesn't go into live-cd environment either.

8.04 worked fine iirc. The CD I'm using is a vanilla x86 Kubuntu 8.10 and it passes the CD check.

I suspect that 8.10/new xorg doesn't like the gfx card....cause it doesn't look like its freezing (Hdd & DVD continue for a bit after the blank screen)...it just not displaying anything.

I suppose I could use the alternative CD...that would probably install it fine. But if the Live-CD doesn't boot then a alt-installed copy probably won't either.

Appears to be similar to this:

except they are all using nvidia cards.

    Asus P5k
    Intel E6550
    Ati 3850 radeon

    Memtest86 runs fine too.

Any ideas on what is causing this & how to fix it?
    Thanks

Use the alternate install CD instead: http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/8.10/

Update: Managed to install using Safe Graphics by pressing F4.

And you're right LII, the alt CD would have done the trick too by the looks of it.

      Thanks
