I need help, I just installed kubuntu on my computar and i can't seem to get it to recognize an external hardrive. What do I do?

So when you turn on your external hard drive... what happens?
Does it show up on your desktop but then say you don't have permission to open it?
Does it not show up at all?
What filesystem is this hard drive? NTFS? FAT32? -

it refers ti it as media:/sda1 and says it doesn't existComment
