    New installation problem

Hello, guys. I was thinking where I should put my question and, because I am A newbie in the Linux I decided to do it here.

I have a successeful installation of Kubuntu 7.10 at my home machine and decided to install Kubuntu 8.04 on my work machine. For that I resized my NTFS partition (I have WinXP SP2 installed) on HDD SATA 160GB Seagate ST3160815AS and created free unused space in the end of disk. After that I started installation in graphical mode, I went through 3 steps (select Locale, Time Zone, etc) and select manual partitioning on the 4th step. I made two partitionS - 32Gb in Ext3 for '/' and 3Gb for swap. But after clicking on the 'Next' button the instllation wizard stops for a long time and doesn't response anymore. The HDD let is trying to flash some time and then stops too. I tried several time and with different settigs (modes) for my SATA controller in BIOS, tried to wait FOR a long time (about 30miutes), but without success. Can anyone help me with this problem? Seems, that not only Kubuntu has that problem, but Ubuntu and FedoreCore too (I tried to install them too).

    My work machine:

    CPU: Intel Core 2Duo E6750
    RAM: 2Gb
    HDD: SATA 160GB Seagate ST3160815AS
    MB: ASUS P5K-VM

Pleae, help, my Google search gives me nothing...

Agreed. I had a system that didn't like the LiveCD but the Alt CD did great.

It's also possible that installation CD is a bad burn -- the symptom of "hanging" at a certain point in the installation process is usually due to a bad CD. Check the md5sum on the download file (I also recommend Alternate Install), and then burn at 4X and use "DAO" mode if you can.

Thanks for all your nice comments, but command-line installation also didn't work for me. It just had a 'dark screen' and nothing... and reboot sometimes... =\ But I will try to reburn DVD.
