Keyboard layout for international character set

After configuring my keyboard (HP Pavilion dv4000) with the following command:

setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout us -variant intl

everything worked fine, except when I type 'c I should be getting the symbol ç and I'm getting ć.

All other special symbols (á é í ó ú â ê ã õ) are working fine. The issue is ç. This symbol appears in both Portuguese (my language) and French.

So anyone who has a computer bought in the US and lives either in Brazil, Portugal or France, please help me out of this.

      Thank you dibl,

After following the thread, I finally found the reply #8 by Snowhog (compose key) that worked fine.

I just removed THE issue that was preventing me from using Linux 100% of the time.

Many thanks to all of you.
