    Kubuntu 7.10, nVidia Geforce 76ooGT, ViewSonic vx1940w

I can't seem to get 1680x1050 widescreen display configured. it wants to go 1400x1050. I've been reading on several forums and sites and honestly, most of I'm not following. Can someone point me in the right direction to configure this? this is my second night with Kubuntu installed so I'm a little lost here. Thanks.

Re: Kubuntu 7.10, nVidia Geforce 76ooGT, ViewSonic vx1940w

Try installing the nvidia-settings package from Adept, then, run it as root:
      Code:
      kdesudo nvidia-settings
Click the "X Server Display Configuration" tab in the left-hand column, and make your desired changes.  Then, click the "Save to X Configuration File" button on the bottom-right, check the "Merge with existing file." option, and click "Save".  Restart Xorg and you should be good to go

Note: Your xorg.conf file doesn't list 1680x1050 as an option for your card (which is likely the issue), but Nvidia Settings should take care of you.

lol, you would ask me that. i think, iir, that i clicked something that said "detect" and adept brought down the drivers.

one question, what exactly do i do when i run the nvidia-settings? not sure about that...

When you click the "X Server Display Configuration" tab, you should see a "Resolution:" dropdown menu in the window on the right. Select your resolution from there and click the "Apply" button; if you like what you see, click the "Save to X Configuration File" button on the bottom-right, check the "Merge with existing file." checkbox, and click "Save". Log out, press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart Xorg, log back in, and you should be good to go!

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling your driver with EnvyNG; I'll help you with that if you need it

While I'm thinking about it and you're still online, back up your current xorg.conf in case you accidentally misconfigure it:
                Code:
                sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
('X11' is spelled with a capital 'X')  Then, if you find yourself without a GUI, you can restore your working xorg.conf with
                Code:
                sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf
                Followed by
                Code:
                startx

that resolution isn't in the drop down, that's where i'm getting lost. but yet, the correct setting are found in the dialog for the graphics card. it has the correct card and monitor listed with the correct native resolution. so how do i get that into the drop down in the configuration area?

fonts are looking a little better, except here in firefox. probably need to install some other fonts and change the appearance some. anyway, thanks for the help.

You may be able to fix Firefox's fonts by going to "KMenu -> System Settings -> Appearance -> GTK Styles and Fonts" and choosing "Use my KDE fonts in GTK applications".
