    New video card

I'm not really new to Linux but I'm stumped on this one.

I changed my video card from a Matrox G450 to an Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 and now I cannot see anything when X starts. Nothing at all.

I can get to a command prompt by selecting the recovery mode boot option, but what then?

Do I need to install some proprietary NVIDIA drivers?

I'm on 26.4Kbps dialup so I'd rather not use apt-get directly but download any required files in a controlled way (with resume) then install from local files as I usually do with everything.

    Any tips for me?

"dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" has set me on the road to recovery... thanks again for the quick reply!
