I installed an Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer without a hitch but I don't see any kind of settings for cleaning the ink heads, printing test pages, aligning heads and so on that you see in WindowsXP. Are those features available somewhere or do I need to install something else in addition to the driver? Thanks.

Re: Question about a printer install
Epson is very well know for their non-support of Linux as this page shows:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...s&platform=All
HP has a nice one installed in *ubuntu by default.
I know there are a few people here using epson, why not change your title to reflect the fact that your are using epson, and/or looking for a epson toolbox.

Re: Question about a printer install
I have an Epson C-84, which generally works well with Linux, in contrast to a lot of the other Epsons and most of the Canons and all of the Lexmarks.
The answer to your question is probably "No".
If you will open your browser, and in the URL window enter the following:
http://localhost:631
the CUPS printing utility will provide you all the capabilities that are available under "Manage Printers". I just now sent a "Clean Heads" command to mine, and nothing happened at all. That's kind of typical - you're back to observing the ink levels using the eyeball method.
