    adept manager

    hi
i am just trying to upgrade to kubuntu 7.10 and faced some trouble with my internet connection.
now trying to continue the upgrade i cant access the adept manager anymore but get the following message:
another process is using the packaging system database (probably some other adept application or apt-get or aptitude).

what to do? does anybody have an idea?

    regards,
    kailash

Do not understimate fools. Better ones are born all the time and Microsoft is hiring.

thx for the help! (i've already been on kubuntu7.10)

but i face a new problem: after installing kde4-core i've enabled the desktop effects...
this seems to be fatal as i now only see a grey/black screen after login (with kde4.0).
loging in with kde 3.5.8 works fine.

          what can i do?

            Re: adept manager

If you can still get into KDE3 this follow this link http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3091769.0 the very last post gives you a command line to gain access to the KDE4's options so you can turn off the desktop effects. I had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

            Best of luck,
            James

              thx, it helped super!

i just post the help here once more for others facing the same problem:
              You should still be able to log into your KDE3 session;
from there, to open the KDE4 System Settings window, just run the command: /usr/lib/kde4/bin/systemsettings

That's a lot better method than deleting the KDE4 directory as some have told me. That way you don't loose to many customizations. Thanks for that bit-o info.
