I think I have nearly sorted all my problems out bar one - as I stupidly didn't back up my photos and documents bat to another partition I have lost them when I had to install Kubuntu onto the whole disk when Win xp died. I have read that photorec might be able to find them for me but I can't find a simple wysiwyg way of installing and using this program.

I would be thrilled to find it isn't all lost for good.

I can get my music back from my ipod even if I have to export it on my xp laptop and then transfer the jpeg's to my pc.

Most likely you will be able to recover a majority of your files. Just follow the directions on Christophe's website.

If you installed Kubuntu over the same place your lost photos were located, good luck ever finding them now.
