I downloaded an iso last week, making sure it was most recent, and it claimed to be ver3.5.1, and after installing, the about says that it's ver 3.4.3 (and I really installed it onto a freshly formatted disk)

Downloaded an ISO of what? Version 3.5.1 sounds like the latest KDE. Is that what you downloaded or thought you downloaded? Or did you think you downloaded Kubuntu 5.10 with KDE 3.5.1? As far as I know, the Breezy ISO comes with 3.4.3. KDE 3.5.1 must be installed separately.
