    Re: Final issue : Wireless!

In addition, I tried the ndiswrapper -l command and found that two other windows drivers were still in there (I had tried them first but they didn't load properly).

SO I went back and removed them, rebooted but still no luck.

Here's what it looks like now:

    kvm@kvm:~$ ndiswrapper -l
    net5211 : driver installed
device (168C:001C) present (alternate driver: ath_pci)

Which, I hope, is how it should look. iwconfig + ifconfig look the same as posted above.

      Re: Final issue : Wireless!

So I'm just about at an end to solving this problem...

I followed the linked how-to through til the end, like I said, and it seemed to work and help ... my system is now seeing the wireless card but I can't realistically use it, as seen through the lshw:

      *-pci:1
      description: PCI bridge
product: 82801G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express Port 2
      vendor: Intel Corporation
      physical id: 1c.1
      bus info: pci@0000:00:1c.1
      version: 02
      width: 32 bits
      clock: 33MHz
      capabilities: pci normal_decode bus_master cap_list
      configuration: driver=pcieport-driver
      *-network UNCLAIMED
      description: Ethernet controller
product: AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter
      vendor: Atheros Communications, Inc.
      physical id: 0
      bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0
      version: 01
      width: 64 bits
      clock: 33MHz
      capabilities: bus_master cap_list
      configuration: latency=0

The best guess I have (and I'm as far from an expert as I can be) is that the problem is the UNCLAIMED status of the card.
Google hasn't returned all that much on this topic and what it has returned, hasn't helped my problem.
Sadly, I'm inclined to agree with this poster:
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3084717.0

Now I am starting to wonder what my alternatives are. The problem is I totally have fallen in love w/ all other aspects of Kubuntu and don't want to switch to Ubuntu or another linux app. Certainly, I will not go back to Windows or OS... so, if you're reading this and can't help with my current issue, I ask you what are some alternatives:
-I could buy an external wireless card which is better suited
-I could install a different version of Kubuntu, better suited to my setup (currently Gutsy kernel 2.6.22-14)
      -other ideas ?

        Re: Final issue : Wireless!

I have a Fujitsu laptop with the Atheros card using a Belkin54g router.

If you want encryption will need to use Hex under the network manager setup
and input the information from your router. When completed correctly should
get a option to use kdewallet to save the information for future use.

Currently using kernel 2.6.20-15 which is works fine with wireless, but if upgrade
to later version of a kernel have problems.

Found this stuff with trial & error.

          Hey kiisu,

Did you ever get your problem resolved? I have the same wireless card in my laptop.

Here is my post on the ubuntu forums:

          http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...84#post3869884

Follow the directions for wireless setup. Reading through your post, I am not sure if you blacklisted the ath_pci.
