setting PATH and JAVA_HOME variables

am using kubuntu 5.10 breezy. i hav installed jdk in desktop but dont know how to set PATH and other environmental variables......

What are you trying to install that you need to set the path? How did you install jdk?

The correct way to set an envir. var. is through export $PATH=<path>
