I am really sorry for how annoying this must be for everyone here, but I will just come out and say it right now....I am a COMPLETE NOOB! Sorry. I do follow step by step instructions. Please give me a FREE partitioning software link if thats even needed. I feel like such and idiot on here, so please dont rub it in my face even more. So please, help me. Thank you.

Partitioning Windows and Ubuntu from psychocats is a good place to start. Check also, the Documentation | How To's section of this Forum. Lots of good help there.

Doesnt Gparted use mac files? cuz windows doesnt reconize

GParted is a LiveCD, so when you download and burn the CD, you boot from it. It's self contained. Your installed OS isn't involved.

So I just burn it to a disk and boot up with that in my disk drive?

Yup. Download the .iso file. Burn it with your favorite CD burning software (4x speed is best). Verify the burn, insert into drive and reboot PC. Remember to set in your BIOS, the boot order so that CD is 1st. After that, you'll boot into GParted. You can then set up the free/unallocated space on your HD for use with Linux. GParted will also resize your Windoze partition if necessary, as you have to have free space on the HD for use for any other OS.

Read through the psychocats link I gave you. It explains partition preparation for dual-booting in an easy to understand way.

So how do I make the BIOS do the disk first....in msconfig?

Every PC has a 'key press' option, usually identified on the screen during boot, that tells you what to press to enter Setup (or similar wording). That's what you need to do to get into the BIOS for changes.

THANK Y"ALL SO MUCH (yes I am Texan ) Tommoro or Friday I am going to Reinstall Windows, then I am going to Install this. Right now I have 10 gb free so I need to just clear out the crap before I do anything. Two last question though....Can you delete a partition and when you have 2 OS"s how do you determine which one to be turned on when you boot up the computer?

First, boot into XP and perform any cleanup you want to do - program deletion, files, etc. Basically, keep only what you want, uninstall/remove the rest. This will reduce the disk space that XP is using. When done with that, I'd use XP's disk management utilities to defrag (turn off any screen saver first, terminate any running programs). After that, then you can reboot into GParted. It will allow you to 'shrink' the existing partition that XP is using (the entire HD) leaving you with 'unallocated' space on the HD. It's this unallocated space that you will 'set up' for Linux. Again, read through the psychocats web page. Understand it. If you have questions, post them here. It is far better to take the time to get the understanding before you begin, than to just jump into the deep end of the pool, only to realize that it is the deep end, and that you don't know how to swim, and there are no life guards on duty!

When you install Kubuntu It will do this for you automatically. It will install the GRUB boot loader which will give you a menu of operating systems whenever you boot the machine.

BTW: When you download the GParted live CD, burn it to a CD-RW if you have one. Once you have run it you may never need it again.
