Hi, I've had a hard drive crash, and lost some data, however my system seems to work fine(save for kde config being messed up a bit). I do not really want to reinstall everything but I am wondering. Is there a tool that will compare md5 signatures of files installed from the packages with the files on my hard drive and then either prints a report or reinstalls packages/files which had changed(would be nice if it ignored config files but I can live without it if wouldn't do that). Any ideas? Thanks a lot for any feedback.

The basic problem is that while the md5 checksum on the 'packages' can/could be done, it won't do you any good for verification of the individual files on your system that were installed from said package.Slava Ukraini! πΊπ¦

Thank you very much for your reply.
Is there a way then, of reinstalling all the packages installed on an automated basis ? sort of like gentoo's emerge --emptytree world . I just do not want to go through the pain of installing the system again and I would at least want to be sure that all executables/libraties/man pages had not been affected by the crash and have a consistent file system.

I think others might say, "If it doesn't report it's broken, don't worry about fixing it." If you try to do/run something and errors are reported/experienced, then deal with troubleshooting that process and/or application.Slava Ukraini! πΊπ¦
