Korganizer wont alert

I found some unanswered questions on the net with the same problem, some of which dating 2 years back, but no obvious solution. I am using iceweasel and lightning at the moment but I am not very happy with its calendar and alerting thing, so I am considering to go full KDE with Kmail and Korganizer, but Korganizer won't alert me either by sound or a pop up message. I am using korganizer 3.5.5 and KDE 3.5.5 at the moment.

Anyone else with a similar problem and a solution?

Verify your KMail | Settings | Configure Notifications

Click the Advanced >> button then verify that you have either or both, Play a sound and Show a message in a pop-up window checked.
