    buggy display

Just recently switched my desktop resolution, and now there's a lot of images getting corrupted or something whenever they load. Refreshing works, or just minimizing and restoring the window works sometimes too. This is happening everywhere - firefox, kopete, even the kmenu. I would've just changed the resolution back, but I'm kind of afraid that will make things worse.

I've googled this and saw something to this effect (i think) reported as a bug. Does anybody know any kind of quick fix for this? KInfoCenter tells me I'm using "savage" drivers for my video card. This computer (an old Compaq Presario) is getting a bit long in the tooth, so all the hardware is probably considered pretty ancient by now.

    Thanks for the help.

edit: almost forgot. I'm using Kubuntu 7.04, if that makes a difference.

    You could check Xorg log:

    Errors:
    Code:
    :~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)"
    Warnings:
    Code:
    :~$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(WW)"
Or K > System > System Logs Viewer (KSystemLog)

      Re: buggy display

okay, I checked the Xorg log through KSystemLog. I have no idea what any of this means.

This is the only message that has a red X to the left of it:

error xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/wacom

it's shown up about three times in the log. I'd post the whole log, but it's pretty long.

thanks for the links. i'm still drowning in linux somewhat, but i'm learning to swim. This reminds me of when i learned about something called the "registry" in windows years and years and years ago. It was a lot of fun to learn my way around, until I broke something.

Anyway... I found a temporary fix. I set the screen resolution back to what it was originally. Like I said, this computer is somewhat of a junker, so I wouldn't be surprised if my video card was causing the problems.
