mencoder mkv to avi with subtitles

Hello,

Not sure if this belongs here or dist specific section, but here's the question. I have a bunch of mkvs with soft subs that I would like to change to avi or xvid or anything really, with the subs included. None of the GUIs I found for mencoder worked. I can do the mkv to avi using the console and the directions I found here http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Mencode...ide#The_Basics but I can't figure out hoe to manage the subs.

I'm running dapper on a generic 686 pc.

I would be extremely gratefull if anyone could help me out.

Are you trying to hardcode subtitles:

or do you try to rip subtitles:

Sorry, just ignore my horrible typing.

I was trying to hardcode the subs. I think with the tips n tricks page along with the mkvinfo -g command I'll be able to do it. I'll try after work and respond as to whether or not I could get it to work.
