One option I am looking at for a linux laptop is to buy a Thinkpad notebook. As far as I'm concerned these are the best non-apple laptops around. Can anyone tell me if Kubuntu will run ok on the R50e model?

One way would be to test a live CD on the R50e, assuming one was available at a store or showroom. You might also want to take a look at this website:
