    Changing xorg.conf

    Greetings,

I was interested in changing this file; however, it says that I do not have permissions. I am trying to change from 24 to 16 or 32 to run an emulator called znes in wine. Any help would be great.

    Cheers,
    Mac

Xorg.conf is a very important system file because it controls your display system. In order to edit it you need administrative permissions. The easy way to do this is to use konqueror to navigate to the directory /etc/X11/. Find the file xorg.conf. Right click on the file. Click on "Actions" and then on "Edit as Root". Enter your password, when requested. Navigate down the file until you find the section called "Screen", now you can change the DefaultDepth to 16. Are you sure that you have to do this. It will reduce the resolution of your display not only for the one program that you want but also for everything else. That sounds like a very poor trade-off to me. But, that's how to do it.
