    kCometan3 make file problems

    Hi

I download kCometan3 screen saver and tried to install it but when I tried to "make" Konsole complained about No targets specified and no makefile found.

    Shell session excerpt:

Don't try and make something before it's configured. Here, configure clearly ends with an error that you need to correct and rerun before you issue 'make'. You'll need to install the X development package (which may or may not be named something like xorg-dev). The rerun configure, and do the same for any other error messages you get.

      Re: kCometan3 make file problems

      Short Answer:

      Your problem is here:

      Code:
checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!
You need to install the X include files. the xorg-dev package.

      Long Answer:

Are you sure that you want to compile it?.
In the author page there are some deb files, you should probably try to install them first.

Compiling programs is not easy, and there will probably be more dependencies unmet (chances are that Kde includes at least will be needed, and probably some 3D library too), and you will need to be able to resolve them.

      Javier.

        DIY Compiling

When you get errors: Do a web search with the message (google, yahoo...) -> If you are lucky: Solution

        Googling with the:
checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

        Hi,
i think you have also to install these two packages:
        x-dev
        libx11-dev
        ....
        Hi,

        Try installing kdebase-dev.

Yes, thank you, that did the trick ...

          Re: kCometan3 make file problems

          I tried running
          Code:
           sudo apt-get xlibs-dev
          and konsole complained
          Code:
          E: Invalid operation xlibs-dev
What codes should I be using?
          Thanks

            xorg-dev.

You need to install xorg-dev package. But you are going to need others.

Also, your syntax for the command is wrong. It should be sudo apt-get <operation> <package list>. Check the man pages (man apt-get) for clarification.

                Re: kCometan3 make file problems

Hi! I went over what was posted on this thread and I came up with the following
                Code:
                apt-get install xserver-xorg-dev
                apt-get install kdebase-dev
                apt-get install libx11-dev
The first two installed xsever-xorg-dev and kdebase-dev. My libx-dev is the current version. I then compiled kcometan3 easily with no more problems. This screen saver is awesome! Thanks everyone I appreciate all of your help.
