The funds used to keep KFN online come from three sources: 1) Funds coming directly from our host and site owner Open Source, 2) Ad revenue (Ads seen only by non-members visiting KFN), and 3) Paid Subscriptions here on KFN.
By far, the largest amount of financial support comes from our own members who purchase Paid Subscriptions, and we don't overtly push Paid Subscriptions.
Open Source has notified us (Administrators) he is "down to our last $100 (two months of hosting at Linode)." Linode is where KFN is hosted.
Running and maintaining a forum such as ours is not without expenses. That's just the nature of things. We activated Paid Subscriptions so that our members who felt that KFN was worth supporting had a way to do so. So, as Open Source has reached out to his Administrators, I am reaching out to you. Our Paid Subscriptions range from $12.00 to $500.00, and can be accessed from your User Settings and clicking on the Subscriptions tab.
Paid Subscriptions are good for one year and are not auto-renewable. So if you purchase a Paid Subscription, you are charged just for that subscription, and after one year, it expires. You won't be charged again, unless you opt to purchase a Paid Subscription again.
KFN doesn't have 'swag' we can provide to our members who choose to support us this way. It would be nice, but swag would only add to the costs of running and maintaining KFN. Instead, we provide you with a Profile badge denoting the support level you purchased. That, and certain KFN premium features become available to you. And, you get our most heartfelt thanks and gratitude.
KFN would not exist if it weren't for our members. And many of our members have been with us for many, many years.
So, personally, as a long time member myself, I thank you for being an important part of KFN, and for all the support you provide, whether by helping other members with their issues, or by supporting us with your hard earned dollars.
Kubuntuforums Announcements is not open for posting by regular KFN members, so you can't reply to this post here, but you can reference it in a post in Community Cafe.
