Xfce keeps getting bumped by Gnome

I'm wanting to run xfce/xubuntu - got it all installed etc.

When I log in under a xubuntu session, it starts off okay but suddenly turns into a gnome session.

I keep changing it to xfce manually this way:

settings --> settings manager --> Desktop --> tick box marked "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop".

But what I want is for it to stay that way by default, rather than turning into a gnome desktop every time I newly log in.

You do not say which version you are running.

On the sign-in page where you put in your username and password there will be an icon where you can choose Session Type - Gnome, KDE, Xfce etc. Choose Xfce there. Unless you change it again it will open in the Session that you last used.

      Sorry.

      8.10

I log in under xfce, not gnome.
