[DESKTOP] Kubuntu does not install on Hard Drive

I tried to install Kubuntu on a hard drive last night. At the point the installer is to find the available hard drives it fails with an error something like "partitioner ended with error 144"
On the live CD I was able to open KDE Partition manager, locate the drive, delete all partitions and format as EXT4. I was able to read and write to the drive too.
I ended giving up and successfully installing Kubuntu on a different drive. Note: only one drive was installd in the machine in each attempt.

This Western Digital drive was formally 50% of a RAID.

Do you think there may be some type of flag I need to set, for it to be recognized as a drive to install to? Any other ideas?

    Thanks for any help.

Probably a UEFI/BIOS setting. Typically, you will need to set the SATA to AHCI and disable hardware RAID/RST, particularly is this PC/laptop had Windows.
