    10+ Windows 7 services you may not need

    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10t...46?tag=nl.e101

    A lot of us also use Windows. This info might come in handy, although I am not sure about item #3 being diabled.
    "A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
    – John F. Kennedy, February 26, 1962.

    #2
    #1, IP helper: agree, if you aren't using IPv6.

    #2, offline files: agree. I think this is already disabled anyway on machines not joined to Active Directory domains.

    #3, NAP: agree. Very few organizations implement the infrastructure required for NAP. On a standalone PC, it's useless, and in fact won't enable itself.

    #4, parental controls: agree. Don't use technology to manage what's really a human issue.

    #5, smart cards: agree, if you aren't using a smart card to hold private keys.

    #6, smart card removal policy: agree, and should already be disabled (I think).

    #7-8, Windows Media Center stuff: agree, but there's a better way:
    Control Panel | Turn Windows features on or off | Media Features, disable Windows Media Center.

    #9: WMP sharing: agree.

    #10: FAX: what's a fax?

    #11-12: HomeGroup: agree. Does not appreciably improve file sharing.

    #13: Tablet PC stuff: agree. Also, under the same Control Panel element I mentioned earlier, disable Tablet PC stuff.

    Others that I would add (for typical home computer users)
    * Peer name resolution
    * Peer networking stuff
    * Windows Connect Now
    * Function discovery stuff
    * IKE and AuthIP
    * IPsec Policy Agent
    * Link-layer topology stuff
    * Windows CardSpace
