[SOLVED] KDE "Start screen animation" question

Hello all, I don't know if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find anything relevant on a search (here and on the web)

First off, running Kubuntu 14.04 x64. I want to know how I can skip the little animation when KDE starts, it shows a hard drive, tools, a globe, the KDE logo, etc. Instead of seeing this, I'd like to just be taken to the desktop once the system starts. Is this possible or is it like the windoze logo on a win box and not skippable? (sometimes but not often, it hangs and takes a bit to start, not really bad, but a minor annoyance.)
My friend who is really good with *nix and KDE says he thinks it's possible, but doesn't know how, so hopefully I can pass what info I get here on to him.

    thanks for any info!

at the desktop ,,,, press alt+F2 to get the krunner ,,,,,,,,,,enter "ksplash" and press enter .

select none in the KCM that will pop up .

you will still be waiting for the desktop to load ,,,,,, you just may not get as annoyed looking at a seemingly stuck splash screen .
