Plasma desktop System tray question

I run kubuntu plasma 5 and arch plasma 5 git. On arch I dont have legacy xmod tray icons but on kubuntu I do and I was wondering what is done different to have the old tray icon support on kubuntu.. thanks for any pointers..

The kde from git you are running would have to be patched/compiled with deps as described here:
http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2014/06/where-are-my-systray-icons basically, you need libappindicator support at compile time, among other things. This might not be appropriate for a constantly changing git codebase, perhaps?
