[SOLVED] Video thumbnail not displayed on directory icon

    Hi,

i recently moved from opensuse 12.1 to newest kubuntu and i did notice that video thumnails on directory icons do not work in dolphin as they used to work in opensuse. I found that bug in kde's bug track here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238690 but it seems dead. Does anyone have it working?

    Video thumbnail generators

    Kubuntu 12.04, KDE 4.8.3, 64 bit.

There are available from the repositories:

    ffmpegthumbs (from the KDE /1/)
kffmpegthumbnailer (a video thumbnailer for kde based on ffmpegthumbnailer /2/)
    mplayerthumbs (oldest /1/)

    other options /3/.

    Testing

    #1 Installed:

    ffmpegthumbs
    kffmpegthumbnailer
    mplayerthumbs

No video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

    #2 Installed:

    kffmpegthumbnailer
    mplayerthumbs

No video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

    #3 Installed:

    mplayerthumbs

Video preview thumbnail on folder icon.
(did need log out - log in)

    #4 Installed:

    ffmpegthumbs
    kffmpegthumbnailer

No video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

    #5 Installed:

    ffmpegthumbs
    mplayerthumbs

Video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

    #6 Installed:

    ffmpegthumbs

No video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

    #7 Installed:

    kffmpegthumbnailer

No video preview thumbnail on folder icon.

At here the MPlayerThumbs can show the video thumbnail on directory icon. The kffmpegthumbnailer is blocking the video thumbnail on directory icon when installed with the MPlayerThumbs. The ffmpegthumbs can be installed with the MPlayerThumbs.

    Dolphin & MPlayerThumbs

It seems (?) that the Dolphin is using the MPlayerThumbs to make/show the video thumbnails on directory icon.

The MPlayerThumbs can be disabled. The mplayerthumbs is using a stripe on the left edge. The ffmpegthumbs (~kffmpegthumbnailer) is using the crapes on the both edges.

Thank you! It was indeed the kffmpegthumbnailer to block the video thumbnail generation on directory icon by mplayerthumbs. When I uninstalled it now it's working like in opensuse.

Now I have the same problem in 12.10. mplayerthumbs was not even to be found in standard repository so I installed from here. This time kffmpegthumbnailer is not installed, neither ffmpegthumbnailer.

          Kqq / kde 4.9.2

mplayerthumbs was not even to be found in standard repository...
          mplayerthumbs is available: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?ke...ll&section=all

For the Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal:

apachelogger only things missing should be network and mplayerthumbs now 07:14
apachelogger and former needs packaging to begin with 07:14
          At here

          The MPlayerThumbs at here is from : https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas -> https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?n...=mplayerthumbs -> https://launchpad.net/~samrog131/+archive/ppa

The working is a bit erratic - There are thumbnails on some directory icons but not all.

I don't know if this is a thumbnailer/Dolphin/KDE or what problem.

Video thumbnailers at here: ffmpegthumbs, ffmpegthumbs-mattepaint, mplayerthumbs.
