    Re: Qt 4.7 Beta

I installed it on a test 10.04 box last Friday, haven't had a chance to do more than observe it starts up and is usable. There was a stray untitled X Window that appeared every startup and would kill X if I closed it - but this is a test PC that was upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04, not to mention all the experimental stuff I try on it.

Currently its updating to 4.5 Beat 1 at the moment ...

      Re: Qt 4.7 Beta

I did a full dist upgrade from synaptic and got this error message:
      E: /var/cache/apt/archives/kdegraphics-libs-data_4%3a4.4.80-0ubuntu1~lucid1~ppa1_all.deb: Versuche, »/usr/share/kde4/apps/libkexiv2/data/topicset.iptc-subjectcode.xml« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket libkexiv2-8 4
      then did this:
      power1@fintanws3:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
      [sudo] password for power1:
      Sorry, try again.

      Code:
       sudp apt-get install -f
      fixed that:
      power1@fintanws3:~$ kde4-config --version
      Qt: 4.7.0
      KDE Development Platform: 4.4.80 (KDE 4.4.80 (KDE 4.5 Beta1))
      kde4-config: 1.0
      power1@fintanws3:~$
Gwenview seems to be working nicely.

So I'll start playing with the rest

      I think I'll start a 4.5 thread.

        Re: Qt 4.7 Beta

        First impressions:
        QT4.7:
very fast and responsive on this old desktop.

        KDE4.5:
sytem settings overhauled with some neat features.
        - harddrive / partition mount / unmount / auto mount (like we used to have in kde3.x.x)

        - login manager not usable (no sudo)

        Login:
        - KDM does not remember username

        Desktop:
        - fast and "liquid" feeling
        - sys tray widgets look good and clean
        - quick folder access widget crashes plasma
        - network manager in sys tray not showing connection
        - adding lancelot to the panel gives klauncher

        Thats all for now

          Just a hunch -- try Alt-F2 "kdesudo dbus-launch systemsettings"

then see if you can run the login manager.

            Hi Dible,
yeah that works, but not from system settings.

Nothing really new with betas but still wondering

I just did the same thing -- enabled experimental and installed 'em all. I haven't tested it extensively, but I see some bugginess already. In addition to your systemsettings issue, the desktop activity settings > wallpaper utility isn't working quite right (but I did manage to install my wallpaper), and the desktop effects aren't quite right -- desktop switcher does not show any transition from one desktop to the next, even with "cube" enabled.

But, no real show-stoppers so far -- nothing has crashed.
