    Akonadi (again!)

    Hi

I have just bitten the bullet and installed the 4.4 beta. I'm fond of the white knuckle rides- lost the desktop because the plasma desktop did not get installed but with alt+F2 I was able to launch Firefox and find the fix on the web.

Anyway I digress. As I find whenever I upgrade kde I am greeted by my old "friend" akonadi. As previous, it runs and holds everything up, and then returns errors. I have tried the old trick of disabling it, but it seens I can't do so, probably because in the last few days I have switched from Thunderbird and Lightning to the Kontact suite. That has the advantage of a usable export of address book data but everything else seems on a par. So there ain't much in it.

It would I have to say be far simpler to switch back but before I do is there anything you think I can do to fix this? The output is below.

    Thanks

    Ian

have you tried to starting the nepomuk search service ?. i think akonadi needs nepomuk now
you can turn it on in System Settings -> Advanced ->Desktop Search

      I should warn you:
      http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3107077.0

With kde-4.4, Nepomuk no longer uses the soprano/sesame backend, but now requires virtuoso.
At this point, it will mean installing virtuoso, which you will need to compile from source.
Note that you must use the virtuoso-5.0.12; 6.0 won't work with nepomuk.

      http://virtuoso.openlinksw.com/dataspace/dav/wiki/Main/

I jumped through all of the hoops; akonadi now starts, but the nepomuk search does not work right. Basically, any search returns everything in nepomuk's search cache.

Conclusion: this ain't ready for production yet.

Yes, I concluded that as well

As the only real benefit from using the Kontact suite was a more reliable .csv export from the address book (and I've now done my Christmas cards ) I concluded it best to switch back to TB for now, and uninstalled the Kontact suite.

Oddly enough my PC seems snappier as a result.

          Re: Akonadi (again!)

Kontact seems to want to use Akonadi by default. The trick that worked for me was
          System Settings->Advanced User Settings->KDE Resources

Edit each resource setting ensuring that it is set to file & make sure to Ok it even if you change nothing
