Using kde 4.2 how do you disable the tooltips on the panel?

Good question. With the Task Manager, you can via it's right-click menu.. or you can change the tool tip from a window preview to just the program icon in Desktop Settings... but as far as the icons go that are placed on the panel, i don't know.
If you use the Quicklaunch plasmoid on your panel, instead of placing icons directly onto it, you could gain that functionality. Edit: You don't gain the option of turning tool tips off, they just are not there ever.
