Network and update manager annoyance

There are 2 things on Karmic keep bugging me that not on previous version.

Firstly, I am using cell phone GPRS to access the internet, whenever the link breaks and I try to reconnect, the taskbar network indicator will spinning crazy but never connect, I must either reboot or create a new connection to make it works again.

Secondly, the update manager keep bugging me there is a lock here and there, I must manually remove the lock, I did not run any package manager at the same time, it was a bug of it's own !!

As to your second issue. That is likely a result of a background (chron) update being performed and interrupted when you loose your Internet connection (first issue). That would cause the lock file(s) to not be cleared.
