Hey! I've been using Kubuntu for a couple of months now as a daily driver, i come from windows, i was able to update the OS without any problem and the experience overall has been pretty seamless with me, I've tried Linux so many times in my life, and i always liked it, but it was too inconvenient. With this distro though i was able to do all the dumb casual things i like to do (drawing in krita, watching yt videos, play videogames etc), this distro also helped me loose phobia for the terminal and i even applied some customization to it, like changing the logo of fastfetch with a cool anime character or installing synth-shell to make the user look nicer. The community was also super helpful, and being based on Ubuntu there's plenty of resources out there to troubleshoot and fix the things that I break.

I'm not sure if this is what this forum is about lol this is the first time i post on a forum like this, but anyways, there's my friendly evaluation of the OS

It's pretty cool, I like it πŸ‘ have a nice day

    Kubuntu 25.10 Release

Today is the eve of the release of Kubuntu Questing Quokka 25.10. As this system is about to be released, the developers continue to make outstanding progress. I am pleased to say that this system, for me, has continued to be completely stable. Even Wayland continues to have excellent stability and I hope others on this forum have found this to be he case as well.

The progress made by developers over the past month, is once again shown by me in the System Information Centre version numbers below.
1 Month To Go Release Status
    KDE Plasma Version 6.4.4 6.4.5
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.17 6.17
    QT Version 6.8.3 6.9.2
    Application Version 4:25.08 4:25.08.1
    Kernel Version 6.17.0-3-generic 6.17.0-5-generic
Note that almost all version numbers, even QT, as acheron predicted in post #29, have been updated. The only one not updated is KDE Frameworks. I am very impressed with the progress so far, and I hope that removing X11 is a big non-event for forum members and users.

I cannot search KDE Kontact for text that I know is there. I use Kontact>Edit Find . . . The error message that I get is:

Name:	image.png
Views:	145
Size:	28.4 KB
ID:	688682

Has anyone encountered this problem or is there another way to search and find entries in KDE Kontact that works?

I'm getting a 'Kubuntu' together with 'Ubuntu' in my BIOS bootable partitions (boot order). First time ever that I have seen that. Used to be 'Ubuntu' only.

    Code:
    $ efibootmgr
    BootCurrent: 0002
    Timeout: 2 seconds
    BootOrder: 0002,0001,0000,0011,0013

    Code:

I am still getting many updates which advance my system and nothing is broken. The latest have advanced the applications from 4:25.08.0 to 4:25.08.1. So not as significant as the Plasma Version update, the development is still progressing very well.

We are now in the final month before the release of Kubuntu Questing Quokka 25.10. If you have used this system in the last month, you would have experienced many updates. Even though Questing is still under development, I am pleased to say that this system, for me, has continued to be completely stable. It is a real credit to the development quality of this system.
I continue to use Wayland 100% of the time and I am not concerned that Kubuntu 25.10 will switch to Wayland as the default display server when it is released. No doubt there are those on this forum who prefer X11 and do not want to see X11 go,

The significant progress made by developers is once again shown by the System Information Centre version numbers below.

2 Mnths To Go 1 Mnth To Go
    KDE Plasma Version 6.3.5 6.4.4
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.16.0 6.17
    QT Version 6.8.3 6.8.3
    Application Version 4:25.07 4:25.08
    Kernel Version 6.15.0-4-generic 6.17.0-3-generic

As you can see, all version numbers, with the exception of QT in the above table, have been updated. I am very impressed with the progress so far, and no doubt the developers will make sure that removing X11 is big non-event to users.

I must have had KDE Plasma Version 6.4.4 for some time now as I have the beta ppa added to my system using
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta

So I am not sure when it arrived as I noticed in my calendar Kontact that the beta was available and it was only then that I noticed it in my system

    No Sound Coming from Speakers
For some time I have not been able to get sound when playing media files using VLC. Pulse audio would show that I was getting sound out and going to the nominated audio channel but no sound was coming out. My speakers were working and I could get sound out from my 24.04 system but not from my 25.10 system.

In my frustration I decided to re-install 25.10 which takes a long time - over an hour, particularly at the last step which is:

[OK] Finished modprobe @drm-service - load Kernel module drm.

Unfortunately after all the time it took me to do this, the sound still failed.

I then decided to use pulse audio - in particular "Volume Control" and I used
    > Built-in Audio > Profile Analogue Stereo Output.

I did the same with > Audio Adaptor > Profile Analogue Stereo Output. This change resulted in the sound coming out of my speakers with total control of volume using the desktop volume icon

And I would add to what acheron is saying, that IF you add the repository so you can get kwin-x11, do it as follows:

Close any graphical Package Store/Manager and open a terminal (Konsole) and run:

    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install kwin-x11

Warning: DO NOT RUN sudo apt upgrade (or full-upgrade)

Once you have kwin-x11, either remove the repository or comment it so it won't be used subsequently.

Plasma 6.4.4 should be landing in Questing.

In the VERY short term this will be lacking a real functional kwin-x11 package, as that has been split by KDE to a new source package which needs to go through our NEW queue. So to bridge that gap for people using X11, the required kwin-x11 package can be found in https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+...staging-plasma

Warning: Please please please remove/disable that PPA once you have the package.

I've noticed that the live image still has Adaptive Sync enabled which can cause screen flicker and screen to black problems for certain configurations when on the INSTALL or TRY screen, this has to be disabled on the live session also with the only fix being to hit TAB twice and press SPACE to continue to desktop.
