[Post-Install] 25.04 To 25.10 In-Place Upgrade - Will It Be Smooth? Wayland Only Scares Me!

    Hi,

I have Kubuntu 25.04 installed on two desktops and one laptop.
Will the in-place upgrade be without issues?
Wayland only makes me feel like the above upgrade will have issues?

    Let me know, thanks!

It won't be wayland-only, as an upgrade.
But if it were, you'd just need to install a package (the name of it escapes me plasma-session-x11)

In any case, don't be afraid of Wayland. It is not the boogieman you keep hearing about, just a lot of hot air surrounding things. (Systemd and other things we've long forgotten about come to mind) though there are some small amounts of quite legitimate things there that change always brings. It isn't the end of the world. Nor is x11 going away all that soon. If you need to use x11, it is just a login away.

Give a live USB session of 25.10 a try, or try wayland on 25.04. One can easily switch between wayland and X11 at login.

Just to be clear, Wayland doesn't have render support for very old (first decade of the 21st century) computers. You still need the Xorg server with support for UXA rendering mode.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.
