    [RESOLVED] Monitor shows no signal and is turning off after todays updates on RTX 3080

    Hi everyone,

    I just installed the latest updates, and it completely broke my RTX 3080 using the NVIDIA 570 driver.
    After selecting the system in the bootloader, I see the Kubuntu splash screen, but right when the login screen should appear, the monitor goes black, shows “no signal,” and turns off.

    I tried booting with nomodeset, purging the NVIDIA drivers, and switching to another driver, but no luck. The monitor still loses signal as soon as the login screen is supposed to show up.

    For now, I’m stuck running the system with nomodeset until I can find a proper solution.

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

        I tried solving it with AI,
        whetever we tried it seems that after the update Nvidia stopped working with kernel .22

        But it started working with kernel .15 so currently I launch my system only via advanced options -> kernel .15

          Guys,

          so I did a full format and fresh reinstall.

          Still the problem is present as soon as I install Nvidia drivers (the ones from the GUI menu in Kubuntu, no custom stuff).

          The computer boots, I select Kubuntu, I see kubuntu loading screen and then "no signal" and shortly after monitor powers down - BUT - I typed in the password anyway and pressed ENTER - and few seconds later monitor woke up and the desktop was there...
          Tried multiple times it's all the time like that.

          So the problem is either with login screen in KDE, kernel -22, or Nvidia - it all started after yesterday's system patches.

          Also after fresh reinstall there is huge performance issue on first login, the computer is stuttering, less than 1 fps, the mouse cursor freezes etc, and it goes away after first restart - tried it 3 times, fully formatted and reinstalled Kubuntu 25.04 - it was there every time.

          I use Kubuntu as my daily driver on this hardware since covid and lockdowns, and never before had issues like that.

          Thanks guys, sorry if I can't help you with more technical data, but I am just a normie user.

            Hi guys,

            I just wanted to report that the issue I had with my monitor not turning on at the login screen on Kubuntu has been resolved after today’s updates (installed this morning).
            After rebooting the login screen is now visible again and everything works perfectly.

            I’d like to say a huge thank you to the developers for their hard work over all these years.
            I'm incredibly happy with Kubuntum it’s been my most beloved Linux distro since 2007, and my daily driver since 2020.

            Keep up the amazing work! 💙
