Some KDE native apps don't play nice with Veracrypt

Hello, I'm new to Kubuntu and so far I really like it.
I sometime use an external, Veracrypt-encrypted drive for backup (exfat as it was started in Win7). Dolphin has no problem with it, I can see and navigate through folders and thumbnails. But Gwenview, Elisa and Haruna won't open anything (except webp in Gwenview). Using Gwenview to open jpg or png file, for example, will show the Gwenview icon animation in the taskbar, then it quickly disappears and no file will open. Replicating this immediatly on my system drive with a local file, Gwenview works fine. Same with any video file format in Haruna: nothing happening on external but fine on system drive. What will work on the external for every file format is Shotwell, Pinta and VLC from Discover. I should say that Audacious plays mp3 and WAV files and Okular also opens png and jpg files on that external, so there's that. To recap: system drive no problem. External exfat-encrypted drive: some native KDE apps (Gwenview, Elisa, Haruna) don't play nice. Any idea why?
