That thought did occur to me but again I'm left asking which tool to use? 7zip, unrar or bsdtar? Is there one that displays the progress from a terminal? Sorry for all the questions.

.rar. I can't really figure it out, I have a virtualbox Win10 pro. I've allocated 6 Cores and 32gb ram. it extracted in 12 minutes. I knwo what you're thinking, do it on the Virtual Box but I'd prefer to do it on Kubuntu. I'm just fussy!

Depends on what was used to compress the file. Do you know?

That's what i thought but I'm running the default> Right Click> Extract here. But so far 57 minutes. Is there any particular unrar tool I should be using? Maybe 7zip or peazip?

Unrar question
Hi. I have a quick question. I have a 4gb compressed file that i need to extract which according to the website will extract to over 13Gb.
My specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500 6-Core Processor
GPU: [GeForce RTX 3050 8GB]
MEM: 65710404 kB
I guess my question is, can i pre-compute how long it will take to extract it?
or is it like asking how long is a piece of string
