to place icons, right click on the desktop and open Desktop Folder Settings
under the Layout, choose Folder view
now your desktop will display the contents of your Desktop folder under your /home directory.
if you want to change that to a different folder you can go to the locations tab and enter a custom location

Alas,
I did find a simple resolution for the right click issue (two finger tap). So that is SOLVED.

MacBook Pro9,2
Greetings,
I work for a small 501c3 that refurbishes computers for the disadvantaged and otherwise needy. I am trying to save some old MacBook Pro's from the recycler. I installed 24.04 plasma (no wayland). I have no desktop edit mode or any way to place icons on the desktop. Is this an anomaly? Can I modify some configurations to make it work? Otherwise 24.04 is snappy on a MCP with 8GB of DDR3L 12800 and a 256GB ssd. I need to be able to use edit mode to use this proof of concept machine for my boss to use for demoing for our clients. I welcome you suggestions.
TIA
