Is there a problem install Proton VPN on Kubuntu 24.04?

I am following the instructions at

At step 2, it says

Try changing the Download Server. Open Discover and click on Settings and then on Software Sources for Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. Enter your password.

Select another server. Click on the drop down button (mine currently displays Main server) and click on Other...

Pick another server to try and then click on OK.

Once Discover has updated the package cache, close Discover and retry your step 2 in Konsole.

i just did this the other day to try and watch the superbowl half time show.

you need to run the wget command to add their repository first ... after you do that it should show up as an added software source in the driver manager > other software tab



then your dpkg command should work.

It could be that when you installed it, the package was still available on the Ubuntu servers. I think they have been removed now. Are you able to install it on a fresh installation of Kubuntu?
Even sudo apt search proton* doesn't return much.

Even when I search on Discover, there is no ProtonVPN or Proton VPN.

It is strange that so many things are breaking recently. My experience with Linux isn't great.
1. I don't install Firefox from Discover since it is a snap. I follow the instructions at Mozilla. Their recent update has broken something. If there is no .config/mozilla folder, Firefox won't start. I had to get the mozilla folder from an old PC to get it to work.
2. Left 4 Dead 2 crashes. Valve has made no updates but I guess a kernel update broke something or there is a very old OpenGL bug in Left 4 Dead 2. SOLUTION, use the -vulkan flag on this game so that it uses Direct3D which uses Valve's Proton which directs calls to Vulkan.
3. LibreOffice, the latest version is 26.2. I download it from the official site. It works on my Ryzen 5 3600. On old CPUs, it installs but when you run it, nothing happens.
You have to run it in a console and it will say
CPU ISA level is lower than required

Athlon II and Phenom II is not supported. This turned into a Windows 11 TPM 2.0 situation. old PCs need to be retired but what for? Libreoffice is not going to run faster or better.

Thanks. The guys at Vivaldi had the sense to provide a full installer DEB file.
I was able to install it with the sudo dpkg -i command and the Proton VPN inside it worked.
I don't know why the guys at Proton VPN are not providing a full DEB file.
