    [RESOLVED] No longer able to add items to the Create New menu in Dolphin.

    I had created LibreOffice template files for the "Create New" menu in Dolphin over a year ago, but I recently noticed they are no longer there. The templates folder is now empty as well, and attempts to fix the issue haven't worked. Apparently a recent update changed things. Does anyone know how to add items to the "Create New" menu now?

    So, adding new templates or restoring backups is not working? Nothing has changed in Plasma 5 in the past few years that would affect this.
    In Plasma 6, it is as simple as dragging a file to then directory, so it is even easier today.

      Into which directory? Please explain the process, because the process I used 2 years ago no longer works.

      I placed a Writer file into ~/Templates, but it doesn't show up in Dolphin's context menu under Create New.

      Two years ago, it worked that way. It broke about a month ago.

        What are the exact full steps you used?
        Nothing has changed in Plasma 5 -- there has not been any sort of update to this in about a year, and only a small bugfix at that. There have been no Plasma 5 updates or Frameworks 5 or version 5 Apps since then.

        For Plasma 5, to add a new custom "create new" template, you need to create a .desktop file in ~/Templates. AND place the actual template file somewhere. (The .desktop text file created specifies where this file is located. Many keep them close together, using ~/Templates/.source but it does not matter where.)

        So: for my silly example:
        create a text file called Kustom.desktop in ~/Templates.

        Here is what I have:

        Code:
        [Desktop Entry]
        Name=Kustom
        Comment= Kustom New File
        Type=Link
        URL=.source/kustom.odt
        Icon=alienarena
        And I have placed the Libreoffice Writer doc called Kustom.odt I want to use in ~/Templates/.source

        Now as far as I can tell, and from personal usage, this has been the method to do this for ages and ages. Plasma did not get the ability to drag-and-drop an example file to do this until Plasma 6.2.

        The long method is the only way I have been able to do this in Plasma 5. I of course may be missing something obvious, though.

          I don't recall exactly, it's been almost 2 years. But it was a very simple method that didn't involve creating a .desktop file. But I've managed to fix the issue, so thanks for your response.

            And that was done how?
