Firefox and Thunderbird

Hi,
I do use neither Firefox nor Thunderbird. But I again and again have to install updates of them. How can I get rid of Firefox and Thunderbird completely?

How is it installed ,as snap or apt?
What's the output of

snap list | grep -E 'firefox|thunderbird'

apt list --installed 2>/dev/null | grep -E '^firefox|^thunderbird'

I think it came with snap. Both are not yet installed.

I think I got files from both programs with the installation of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS.

Use Discover to uninstall them?

(then use Synaptic or apt to remove the "fake" debs used to pull in the Snap package, though this may not be necessary. It won't hurt.)

please post the output of these

snap list | grep -E 'firefox|thunderbird'

apt policy firefox thunderbird

it depends on how Firefox/Thunderbird got installed and which packages depend on them.

For a Kubuntu/Ubuntu system:
If they're Snap packages, removing the Snaps normally prevents ordinary updates from bringing them back.
If an APT package or meta/transition package depends on them, an upgrade can potentially reinstall them.
Ubuntu also has mechanisms that can automatically install Firefox/Thunderbird in some configurations.


If you paste the output, I can tell you exactly what is causing the updates and how to remove them without them coming back.

Synaptic knows many files of Thunderbird and Firefox. But no file is installed. But I still get updates of them.
