    Krusader

    Hi, khawaga calling:

I've been running this for about a year now:

    Operating System: Kubuntu 24.04
    KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.12
    KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
    Qt Version: 5.15.13
    Kernel Version: 6.8.0-87-generic (64-bit)

I remember Krusader as File Manager from earlier distros (Mint, Backtrack, SuSe), and remember I liked it much better than Dolphin and Konqueror. But I can't find it in the repository, and Snapcraft hasn't got it either. I find some tar.gz's here and there, but get error messages according to Qt and so on.

I REALLY don't want to upgrade with more than a year to go before EOL, now that I've finally made 24.04 meeting my requirements.
    Any way out of this?

Krusader is there, but it probably is missing the metadata required for Dioscover to see it.
No one has reported this, so it has been a thing that hasn't bothered anyone for at the very least pushing two years.

You can use Synaptic Package Manager, or apt in the terminal to find it.

    Code:
    $ apt policy krusader
    krusader:
    Installed: (none)
    Candidate: 2:2.8.1-0ubuntu3
    Version table:
    2:2.8.1-0ubuntu3 500
    500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/universe amd64 Packages
    So:
    Code:
    sudo apt install krusader

Years ago, coming from Windows with TotalCommander, I also liked using Krusader instead of Nemo or Dolphin. While using Linux Mint, I eventually realized that Nemo is quite useful and has the features I need.
I have since switched to KDE, and I like Dolphin more than before, so I haven't even considered installing Krusader.
The following features are important to me:
      1. Dual windows
      2. Use hotkeys
      3. Easy copying and moving
      4. Good search function
      5. "Use as root" function
      6. Set bookmarks
      7. Integrated terminal
      and much more.
Dolphin provides me with all of this too. So unless you're a power user who needs to use Total Commander or FreeCommander in Windows or Krusader in Linux, I think Dolphin in KDE is a very good choice.

Yup. Me silly old sucker forgot "apt" ...

Thanks a lot; I'm back home again.

If Dolphin was supplied with FTP, I'd stayed there. And I will still use it, I think 50/50, but I'm maintaining websites.

I prefer krusader myself, but dolphin can do ftp (and sftp) using the same kio-slaves as krusader, just use something like:
            Code:
            ftp://username:password@server.address.tld:21/path/to/directory/
            If you omit the
            Code:
            username:password
, it should ask for those, if necessary.

If you have ssh access to the server, sftp is a safer option to connect.

Dolphin can do it. Just put the correct address in it's address bar. Unfortunately I haven't a sftp server at hand at the moment.
