Latest update has issues using multiple encrypted partitions

Just updated everything - kernel 6.0.8.88, and nvidia 580, and the system hangs after mounting the first encrypted partition (root) at the point where the second encryption key is supposed to be entered.

this is the third system that has this behavior, but the first system that failed after an update.

the other two systems failed after initial install with 2 encrypted partitions from stock kubuntu 24.04.0 lts

the first system to fail was a mini pc with amd ryzen 7 7735 with amd radeo 680M graphics chip. Setting up kubuntu on the nvm was without issue, and both encrypted partitions mounted and installed without issue.

But on the first boot, the system accepted the root encryption key, but then hung at the graphical display for the second encryption key on the home partition. I figured it was an issue with the mini pc and installed kubuntu 24.04 on a bigger desktop - i5 12400, with rtx 4060. That install worked flawlessly with 2 encrypted partitions and has been stable since may 2024 after the first install. the lastest nvidia driver was the 550

the third install was another mini pc - this time an i9 with intel iris xe graphics, but the same hang at the second encryption key prompt happened. Still seemed like an issue with the mini pc configurations, although that didn't really sit right with me. the workaround was to have a single encrypted partition, but that was only temporary.

But now, the i5 desktop with the rtx 4060 with the latest 580 driver (not claiming this is the cause) hangs at the second encryption key prompt again. I can get into it by using the kernel in recovery mode (tested on both latest 6.0.8.88 and 6.0.8.79) and jumping through 3 more screens, but it is annoying.

when the desktop finally appears, it seems like everything is the same. I haven't really found anything that doesn't work yet, so I can't figure out what the culprit is for causing the hang. I use night color, and that doesn't engage when the desktop appears, although the icon says it is. When clicked, the night color "disengages" since it is already off, but when clicked to engage, the night color works again.

The night color does seem to point to a graphics driver issue, but the fact that two other graphics chipsets has the same problem leads me to think not really a graphics driver problem.

Any thoughts on why the system hangs at the second decryption stage in all 3 systems?

    thanks
