The next LTS will be 26.04, in April 2026. LTS are released every two years. The lifespan for Kubuntu and other official Ubuntu Flavours is three years.
Discover won't show an upgrade notification until the following October or so.
The upgrade process is very simple and easy, but of course there is always a chance for failure, so having backups is important. Everyone's setup is different.
The process will look the same as it does in Ubuntu - some screenshots HERE (you can ignore the command line parts on the rest of the page)
Now, you don't have to wait, if you are impatient. There will be a way to manually upgrade earlier than October if desired.
Also, you don't have to upgrade right away, either. Even not at all if you are OK with not seeing any Plasma-related updates or security fixes after 2027 (you probably aren't getting many right now, to be honest) While Kubuntu only supports its Plasma for three years, the actual Ubuntu OS under the skin still has the 5 year lifespan so you still get system security updates for the full 5 years. I don't recommend this myself, but some people don't upgrade ever.
As to Metatrader working or not, that is a tricky one to guess at. This runs using Wine if you run the actual software application, and this would be upgraded as well as Kubuntu. Since Metatrader themselves support and provide scripts to set this up, I would assume that they will provide updated instructions or fixes if their software doesn't like the new Wine version. You would want to watch for info from them, maybe wait to upgrade until after they have had a chance to test things on their end.
However, If you are using their web terminal in your browser, you won't have any issues at all.
Chrome should not be affected, either.
