    Why am I seeing this

Name:	Network Shared Folders as seen on my Deskop PC.png
Views:	46
Size:	76.3 KB
ID:	686837

The screenshot is taken on my Linux Desktop PC running 24.04 LTS. My hostname is DesktopPC (/etc/hostname and /etc/hosts).

Why is my Desktop PC being identified under Shared Folders? On my laptop, running 25.05, only my Desktop PC and my iMac are identified. The laptop is not.

And why is my Desktop PC identified in all uppercase, when in both files, it is DesktopPC.

Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Because it is being shared? Or samba server has been at least installed? I *think* Ubuntu sets up at least print sharing ootb, if not more. When I used to use Samba, the local machine always showed up in the network section.
The all caps may be from the different ways SMB is implemented on the different platforms, maybe? It is case-agnostic by default, like Windows is, iirc

Actually look up "NAME MANGLING" in the samba docs, there is a config option for this, but no idea if it affects the samba share name.
