System is locking up - I don't know where to start

My Kubuntu system is locking up 3-4 times a day... all I can do is unplug it and reboot. When it shuts down I hear the fan spinning very fast - and everything is dead.

I have some suspicions (heat?) but really don't know how to start troubleshooting this. I've looked at some logs but honestly - I don't understand what logs and what to look for.

Any advice to help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

thought I'd attach a log dump - means nothing to me but perhaps may be helpful? Hmm I have a screen shot

    sudo journalctl -b -p err..alert --no-pager

The link to the screenshot times out, I'm afraid.

Some details on your hardware would be good. If a laptop, have you tried clearing dust, by squirting air in the vents?

If heat is the cause, you could use the system monitor to show the CPU temperatures. It's a bit tedious to set up, but straightforward. Or you could follow https://askubuntu.com/questions/1583...pu-temperature

Running a stress test might flush out problems. I've been using y-cruncher recently; I've seen a post that related that the y-cruncher stress test could provoke a failure very quickly on his or her system. Just ask if you'd like instructions on y-cruncher.

I've attached: Journal Log | System info and Disk Info

Would be happy to get instructions on running y-cruncher.

I have also added in psensor to monitor temps...

The logs show nothing to me, except that maybe you are running plex.

To run y-cruncher, head to https://www.numberworld.org/y-cruncher/#Download and download the static tar.xz file, say to ~/Downloads. Then,
          Code:
          cd ~/Downloads
          tar xf y-cruncher*
          # cd to the directory just created, maybe by typing "cd y-crunch" and pressing tab
          sudo y-cruncher stress
Best to have monitors running already, because the system might bog down quickly, making it hard to do anything. Press ctrl-C to halt it. The BBP test produced the highest temperatures on my desktop:
          Code:
          sudo y-cruncher stress BBP
