I've never encountered anything like this before. The printer seems insisstent on A4 paper as default. I've gone into all the printer settings themselves, and they are set to US standard letter paper. I've gone repeatedly into System Settings>Printers and set the paper size, but the next time I open System Settings, the paper has reverted to A4. When I try to print something, it will print on the letter-size paper I have loaded, but not before asking me if it's all right to do that. Bottom line: I can print, but it's an unnecessary nuisance. Any ideas?

Check your region settings to make sure it is what you need it to be set to.
While my printer does seem to store the desired paper size, the specific applications may be requesting a different one. I have my PC location set to the US mainly as my workplace is still the US and it is just easier to manage things that way, so until I changed the regional setting for paper size, some things would still want to use Letter even though I need to use A4.
Libreoffice in particular seems to have their own print settings separate from whatever the locale is.
